Alberta Chamber of Resources The Chamber was originally established to provide liaison between the hard-rock mining industry in the north and those firms that serve it. Attention was originally focused on the Great Bear Lake region but with the outbreak of war in 1939, interest was stimulated in those minerals that were vital for war purposes and the Chamber expanded its focus. After 1939, the geological field of interest stretched from Alaska and northern British Columbia across the Northwest Territories and northern reaches of the Prairie Provinces to Hudson Bay. And for the first time, the Chamber took in the southern regions of the prairies that were rich in coal and potash.
