McDougall Centre McDougall School in Downtown Calgary

The McDougall Centre is located in Downtown Calgary. The address is 455 6th St SW.  It was first built in 1906 and was established by the Reverend George McDougall.  It served as a Junior High School in the years 1921 to 1981 and prior to that served as a teachers school.  In 1981 the school was closed, having only 54 students in grades one through six.  On September 8th, 1987 the Alberta Government purchase the building for use by non-profit organizations. It is now a registered heritage site.

Retirement Homes in Eau Claire

The Eau Claire Retirement Residences are located at 301 7th Street SW, Calgary in the Eau Claire District in Downtown Calgary.  The facility is managed by the  Chartwell Seniors Housing REIT.  Many of the seniors here have moved in from other Calgary Condos and are looking for  more relaxed pace with more services as they move onward in life.

Lougheed House Calgary Historical Landmarks in Calgary

The Lougheed House has become one of Calgary’s most well known and beautiful homes from our past.  I have a bit of personal experience with the Lougheed House because when I was just eight years old, my pal Danny O’Keefe brought me there after school. Danny was a small boy, and had is hair cut Mohican  style, so he was quite an interesting picture.  His Dad was the maintenance man there, and the position provided for a tiny suite in the lower quarters on the south side.  I still remember the amazement that one of my friends would be living in this awesome home.

Peace Bridge – Calgary

In case you are wondering what is happening on the Peace Bridge Construction in Calgary here is a photo I  captured on October 1st, 2011.   The Peace Bridge is located in Eau Claire, which is on the South Side of the Bow River at approximately 7th Street SW and 1st Avenue.   The Peace Bridge is a pedestrian crossing which our Calgary City Council received an incredible backlash from residents of the City of Calgary.  The design was handed out to a Non-Canadian architect, Santiago Calatrava who’s principal office is in Zurich, Switzerland for nearly $4 million dollars, without having even tendered it to Canadian Architects.

The Calgary Real Estate Board – creb®

The Calgary Real Estate Board, who’s acronym is CREB® is  located at 300 Manning Road NE, Calgary, AB T2E 8K4 since 2001 and is a cooperative of approximately 5300 members at time of this writing.  You can see it on the east side of Deerfoot Trail between 16th & 32nd Avenues NE.    The Calgary Real Estate Board was founded in the latter part of the 1920’s but did not establish itself permanently until 1943.   The Calgary Real Estate Board is instrumental in providing services to it’s members, and in addition to develop leadership and industry direction.
